Currently I am aware of maybe 5-6 players in Tallinn, out of those only one is playing regularly (marttiku at KGS). For last few months I've played probably about 2 games a week, I don't know if this can be called regualr. Also, during winter and all the way to May it's a 3½-hour trip to Tallinn, cost is about 15 euros one way. |

I talked yesterday with Helger in the club. Helger will find out if the Renju club in Tallinn is interested in hosting the visits either on Saturdays or Sundays. I suggested running the EGCC beginners course and sending teachers about every two weeks. It would be good to send two (or three if we have enough people) persons at each time, so they don't get bored travelling alone and there is also enough people to teach for two. |
|
Renju boards can be used as small size go boards, so the equipment is not a problem. |

Any commnets about the plan? |

I am discussing the matter with the renju people. Just for reference, here is [their homepage|http://www.renju.ee] (90% in Estonian), and for getting an idea of the possible audience, check [the pictures from the Estonian Renju Championship 2003|http://www.renju.ee/index.php?page=pildid&pildidteema=2003%20Eesti%20MV]. Most of the participants seem to be of age 8-16, several of them are dans, |
Tunnet is the world champion. |

I also created a page for [Estonian Go|Estonia] in general. It is quite empty right now, and has only links to this page here and to my own page. But anybody can update it - in the future it is probably a good idea to move factual information about Estonian Go from here to there. There are also some websites in Estonian that have quite a lot of information about the few things we know about Estonian Go and Go players, but these pages are in Estonian. I hope that at some moment me and some others will take care of linking those sites to SuomiGo wiki. |
|
Otherwise, no news yet. Any comments by anybody else? |

Is your discussion with the Renju people still going on? |

Yes. I sent an email to Matti about that - there are many details that are not interesting for the general public or not yet ready enough to be published. If anybody wants to get more information *now*, ask me on KGS. (Or post a request here.) |

After a long period of silence, I would like to ask for the general opinion: if there was a tournament in Tallinn, probably sometime in October, how many people would be interested in attending? Some Lithuanians have expressed their interest (or, in fact, they brought the issue up) in coming. If there's enough interest, we could plan on the usual weekend set-up, 5-round McMahon, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. We would obviously do our best in accommodating or at least organising accommodation for participants. I'm afraid we can't offer much in terms of prizes, maybe next time :) |

Why not make a list? If your goal is to attract Finns, it would be best to make sure the date doesn't conflict with Finnish championships or any other important tournament. I suggest that you make a list of interested Finnish players and various dates. |
|

|
As a random guess, I would say you'll get at least 10 players from Finland, since a tournament would be an excellent excuse to come and abuse the new and improved import restrictions. :-) As Markku said, it is a good idea to put up a preliminary registration list, where people can tell their preferred dates. |

OK, let's try this, then: |

I see that go isnt going that well lately, almost a year since someone has added something here. Someone should take the whole thing up again, organize regular meetings, ect. Although im still a student (16 years old) id like to help if i could, at the moment i'm KGS 11 kyu but i think i will break the 10 kyu barrier soon, and i have time on weekends. So i think i could teach something to the beginners. Anyways if there will be some kind of activities, let me know. |

Ajattelin herättää henkiin tätä keskustelua mahdollisesta Viron vierailusta. Itselläni olisi mielenkiintoa osallistua Viron matkaan mikäli saataisiin muutamia muitakin innokaita mukaan. |

[Älypelifestivaalit|http://www.hot.ee/kabeliit/festival.html] on yksi mahdollisuus mennä. Minulla on vaan kesä jo muutenkin niin täynnä go-tapahtumia, etten ehdi. |

For those, who are interested: Both Tartu and Tallinn have regular go meetings since late Spring. At this moment, the meetings in either places are on Wednesday evenings; "Ülikooli kohvik" (University Café) in Tartu and Café "Peterson" in Tallinn. In Tartu there has been sometimes more than 10 players at the same time. Currently it is a slow time (7 players the last time), but it will definitely improve in September. Tartu's club also has at least one Finnish exchange student. |
|
As a general comment, this page might need a master edit, unless you want to store it for its historical interest. (For me it was interesting to read my own posts from January 2004... But the list of interested Finnish players is definitely outdated.) |
